Vocational Curriculum

BISPA policy believes firmly in preparing young performers with a professional work ethic with time taken to explore business management and development. Our pupils are gaining a profession where talent is no longer the sole requirement. We spend time looking at preparation and development for work outside of the school environment.

Our pupils regularly work with and enjoy the experiences of professionals within the performing arts industry allowing them  to develop a ‘feel’ for the ‘real’ commercial world.

Opportunities to perform outside of the complex will be used to include Birmingham Hippodrome, the Patrick Centre, the Alexandra Theatre and more.

BISPA offers opportunities for students to develop to a professional standard their natural talent with comprehensive performing arts disciplines.  These include;

Drama – ‘Centre Stage’

Improvisation, Characterisation, Script Understanding and General Stagecraft. Opportunities are available for all students to benefit from LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) examinations in Acting, Verse or Prose.

We place great importance on the ‘reality’ of Drama and employ many professional actors with teaching qualifications who are able to offer students the benefit of their current experience in the ‘real world’.

Audition Technique and practice is an important and regular part of training.

Music – ‘Working in Harmony’

Singing, Vocal Development and Technique, Solo and Group Presentation. BISPA recognises that a modern performer needs a full range of ability to succeed and our Music Staff work with current    disciplines in Musical Theatre.

Microphone Technique and an understanding of recording disciplines using both our in-house studio and range of professional external partners.

Dance –‘To dance is to delight’

The core subjects of Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Contemporary Dance are all extensively explored together with individual creativity and expression.   We employ many current Musical Theatre performers who are able to pass on their expert experience and practical skills in this genre.
